Being Safe at the Gas Pump
Recent months have spewed forth a veritable cornucopia of data about spontaneous fires while fueling up vehicles at the gas station. Many of you have written to us asking how you may avoid becoming a victim of such a horrible accident.
After countless hours of in-depth research, we offer these Safety Tips to keep you and yours safe while adding fuel to your vehicle whether it be an automobile, MPV, truck, ATV, SUV, motorcycle, moped, airplane, boat, snowmobile, jet ski, or any other gasoline powered vehicle.
- Extinguish all flaming and smoking materials before pulling into a gas station. This includes but is not limited to matches, lighters, cigarettes, cigars, pipes, joints, crack pipes, incense, essential oils, fondues, Coleman stoves, oil lamps, candles, barbeques, smokers, portable fireplaces, fuel gels, fireworks, explosives, and gas stoves.
- Turn off your cell phone.
- DO NOT get in and out of your vehicle while you are fueling up. This is especially important for those of you with long hair although those of you with short hair are also at risk because each time you slide onto the seat, static sparks will be generated thereby raising the possibility of a fire starting from the fumes of the gas.
- DO NOT "top off" your gas tank. This dangerous practice is common to those breeds from the "frugal countries" but should be avoided at all costs. "Topping off" can allow gasoline to overflow the tank of your vehicle and therefore increase the chances of a spark starting a fire.
- Avoid scratching your neck or shaking yourself vigorously while standing by your gas tank. This tip is most applicable to those of you wearing multiple "tags" or neck jewelry. Once again, the pieces of metal rubbing against each other can cause a spark and we know what happens next.
- Carry a fire extinguisher in your vehicle and test it regularly.
- For dogs: Practice peeing on small fires at home to perfect putting them out. In a pinch, this could save your life, the lives of those you love, prevent a massive explosion, and get you on one of those Dog Hero Shows you have seen on TV.
- For cats: Practice putting out fires with your mental powers. It is a lot easier than you might think. Try it and you will see. You will never end up on a TV show because of it, but you will have the secret satisfaction of knowing what you did.
We are confident that if you follow these simple Tips, you can safely and happily fuel up any vehicle at any gas station anywhere without fear of being incinerated in the process.
